Because not all of you are on social media, and I am old school, allow me to share my unplanned life by email (imagine that email is now old school!). How do I count my blessings but to share and to promise to pay it forward... I just recently returned from Paris with a few wonderful news. I can't wrap my head around them yet, but here they are:

I have been asked to be part of the Design Influencers Conference this coming Sunday. I did not know I was an influencer until they called me one: I am honored and flattered and I will make sure I will be a good kind of influencer :) If you haven't registered, there is still time. My panel with Greg Rohl is this coming Sunday, March 1st at 1 pm. You can register by clicking on this picture. Nate Berkus, Alexa Hampton, Miranda Kerr will be the keynote speakers.

I went to Paris to meet with the amazing publisher and editor for my first design and lifestyle book, which is well on its way. During this trip, I sat for Marc Antoine Coulon the famous and talented fashion illustrator who drew a portrait of me for my book (to see it, you just have to wait until my book is out). Here are a few fun, silly and shameless pictures of us at Le Bristol (my fave hotel in Paris) as well as a cliché picture of me in front of Tour Eiffel in the city of my youth which I still love...

Thank to Pamela Jacarino and Mary-Jo Bowling who are so generous in publishing our Pacific Heights design project in luxe. interiors + design, both in the national and San Francisco editions. It was written so beautifully by Paige Porter Fischer (who was one of the first editors who wrote about my work and me). I had fun shooting with the one and only Douglas Friedman who captured our work as he always does: amazingly!

Boyd Lighting is turning 100 and I am honored and excited to collaborate in designing a new collection for them. While I can not reveal the specific design, I am happy to share that this memorable Charles James' Ball Gowns captured by Cecil Beaton is my main inspiration:

Another exciting news is my collaboration with Le Mondeur: I will be designing shoes and other accessories featuring my fave islands and roots: Sumatra, Java, and Bali... more to come, but here is Jessica and I when we met to discuss our trips to the islands and her current collections.

Follow her on Instagram: @lemondeur and start collecting her shoes!!

Remember I did a fabric collection for Ellis Dunn Textiles called the Sisters Collection? I support equality, so this time we are collaborating on a new one called the Brothers Collection... here is a sneak peek:

Blurry I know... but to be hugged again by STING is more than I could handle ;) The last time he hugged me, I was half my age, so this time he only got the other half. Thank to my date Pati Navalta, the Editor in Chief of San Francisco Magazine and the author of A Better Place and her husband, we had a wonderful evening with the cast and crew of The Last Ship a musical: a must-see in my book!

Thank to all of you, you know who you are.... those who have always believed in me, supported me and loved me - and still do!! This island boy with an unplanned life is always grateful and I promise to pay it forward!

According to Decorist designer Jonathan Rachman, de Gournay—the famed purveyor of bespoke wallpaper, who has more or less set the standard for all that is elegant and cool—is the one to keep an eye out for. “Their colors, design, and artistry are simply divine—be it the classic chinoiserie, their embroidered silk or velvet or the newly minted sequins embellished wallpaper [and] set the bar for the industry,” he notes of the retailer’s signature slew of offerings, which have graced more than their fair share of inspired spaces.

Expect to see more homes bridging the gap between the old and new, embracing these classic backdrops to hold up to the ultra contemporary qualities of their furnishings.

As one of the Bay Area's most celebrated interior designers, Jonathan Rachman brings an international story to all of his work.  Born in Sumatra, Jonathan developed an appreciation of Indonesia’s natural beauty and attention to detail in the craftsmanship of their furniture, textiles, and sculpture. An education in Switzerland afforded him the luxury of traveling across Europe to some of the best antiques markets in the world. Living in Paris, he frequented its famed flea market and developed a keen eye for collections, something for which he’s now well regarded. Rachman is also known for the buying trips he takes with clients around the world. His knowledge of other countries, their markets, and their languages gives him confidence to lead clients to the best each place has to offer.  He opened his first antiques and floral design shop in the heart of San Francisco. It became a favorite of design enthusiasts and the media alike, and Rachman began giving patrons advice on interior design. That led him to start his own design firm.
